October–December savings rates: PPF 7.1%, NSC 7.7%
The new quarter's rates are confirmed, not still awaiting review. Sukanya Samriddhi and SCSS remain at 8.2% for the October–December schedule.
What this means for you
Update a PPF illustration to the confirmed 7.1% starting rate, then test alternative future rates. The October–December notification confirms this quarter, not the next 15 years.
Model a PPF scenario, then vary the rateOpens with these numbers already filled in. Change any of them to match your own.
Small-savings rates for 1 October to 31 December 2026 are unchanged from July–September. Indian Bank's official rate table cites the Finance Ministry's office memorandum dated 30 September 2026 and lists PPF at 7.10%, Sukanya Samriddhi at 8.20%, NSC at 7.70% and the Senior Citizens Savings Scheme at 8.20% annually.
Those are annual quoted rates, not returns for three months. The same table lists annual compounding for PPF, Sukanya and NSC, and a 7.40% monthly-income scheme rate with monthly payouts rather than compounding. Matching the percentage alone can therefore miss differences in how income is paid or accumulated.
For planning, use the confirmed rate for this quarter and read the rules of the specific scheme. Do not turn a quarterly PPF notification into a promise that the same rate will last throughout a 15-year projection. If you use our PPF calculator, its chosen rate is an assumption across the modelled period, not a forecast of future government decisions.
