Privacy policy

1. The short version

• We only collect what we need.
• We never sell your data.
• You can download or delete everything we hold about you, anytime, from your Settings page.
• We use a privacy-first analytics tool that doesn't track individuals.

2. What we collect

When you read articles without signing in: we collect nothing personally identifying. Our analytics is cookie-free and aggregates page views, not people.

When you use a calculator without signing in: we record the calculator name and the numbers you input against an opaque random session ID stored in your browser. This is purely so we can improve the calculators and understand which ones are useful. The session ID is never linked to you personally unless you separately sign in. You can clear this anytime by clearing your browser site data.

When you sign up to the newsletter: we collect your email address and the source (which page you signed up from).

When you sign in with Google: we receive from Google your name and email address. We do not see your Google password or any other Google data. We store a unique account ID, your email, your name, and a record of when you consented.

When you use logged-in features (bookmarks, saved calculator results, goals): we store the inputs and outcomes you choose to save, linked to your account.

When you optionally provide phone number, date of birth, gender, occupation, income range, biggest money concern, or your 12-month savings goal on the welcome page: we store these to tailor the articles, deals and emails we send you. All of these are optional and editable from Settings.

3. Why we collect it

• Newsletter email: to send you the newsletter you signed up for. Nothing else.
• Account email and name: to identify you across visits and personalise your dashboard.
• Saved bookmarks, calculator results and goals: to show them back to you on your dashboard.
• Phone number (optional): account-related alerts only — e.g. a security notice about your account.

4. Where the data lives

Account data is stored in a Supabase project hosted in Mumbai (ap-south-1). Newsletter subscriber data is stored with our email marketing provider, currently HubSpot. We do not transfer data outside India unless absolutely required for the service to function.

5. Your rights under the DPDP Act

• Right to access: download everything we have about you, at any time, from Settings → Download my data.
• Right to erasure: permanently delete your account and all associated data from Settings → Delete my account.
• Right to withdraw consent: unsubscribe from any email in a single click. Stop sharing optional information at any time.
• Right to correction: email us at hello@paisaexpert.com and we will correct any factual inaccuracy within 7 days.
• Right to grievance redressal: if we don't respond to a data request within 30 days, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

6. Cookies and tracking

We use Vercel Analytics, which is privacy-first and cookie-free. We set one cookie ourselves: a 30-day "suppress the newsletter popup" cookie when you dismiss it. We use a session cookie for sign-in. That's it. No third-party tracking pixels, no advertising cookies, no fingerprinting.

7. Affiliate links

When you click an affiliate link on our site and complete a purchase or signup, the partner shares with us only an aggregate confirmation that the transaction happened. We don't see your transaction details. We don't sell your details to affiliate partners.

8. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll tell you via email if you're a subscriber and via a banner on the homepage for at least 30 days.
